Now there's a friendly face I haven't seen in a while! I'm glad to hear from you!
Good advice about the tolls! Marie22, you'll need about 8 euros total for the tolls because they've added 2 new stations so now there are 4.
It's an easy and scenic drive, I always enjoy it when I travel to and from Thessaloniki for shopping and business. You'll see lakes, mountains, the Aegean coastline, and small islands along the way. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!!
Hi marie22 we have driven many times from Thessaloniki to keramoti. If you can try and get a road map that covers the area. We got ours from amazon ISBN 9789605810160 from the airport you make your way onto the ring road and follow until you see the A2 for kavala then it’s a straight forward motorway past kavala then you will see sings for keramoti. Hope you have a great holiday. We have decided to stay at home because of c19 but as soon a easyJet release next August we will be booking.
thanks for all the advice, have just ordered the map , we are really looking forward to the whole experience , have read that once we fill in the PLF form the code we receive will tell us if we are to be tested or not on landing in Thessaloniki but we are keeping a close eye on the greek news daily incase this changes, we are stocked up on PPE so are just hoping all goes well for greece and in turn our holiday , time will tell
@Marrie22 Google Maps also works perfectly and it gives you an estimated time of arrival so you can very accurately anticipate which ferry you'll catch in Keramoti. If you have mobile data and the Google Maps app, you're good to go. There are no more roaming charges within the EU so you can use your UK data in Greece with no extra charge.
No sat nav but do have brand new phone so should be ok for google maps plus paper map, we have booked car hire with potos car hire and just missed out on the 5% discount ha ha as we like to book early, counting down the days now and hoping for the best in that we do actually get onto thassos with no major hiccups , thank you for all the advice x
Can you please advise if card payment is widely available at the shops and taverna's? Is this the preferred method of payment? I am asking because we usually pay be cash to avoid bank fees on transactions
No problem to pay with a debit or credit card. The preferred way in Greece is the cash and I believe you save quite a lot this way. Use your card for bigger bills, so the commission of the Bank will not matter so much.
We made it !!...trouble free flight from manchester to thessaloniki, luckily our PLF qr codes were for no testing but we wouldnt have minded if we had ,potos car hire met us at the car, lovely chilled drive to keramoti and the beautiful ferry ride over , form to fill in to board ferry asking if you had been in contact with covid, temp check before boarding and police onboard to make sure 2 meters was adhered, very impressed, thassos is very quiet but still as beautiful as ever and still has plenty of mythos 😍😍
@marie22 , well done on making it to Thassos, very jealous, can I ask where you are staying? I understand our usual accommodation has remained closed for the season. Looking forward to 2021. Enjoy your holiday
Marie22 have a fabulous time! I see someone else has asked this question but did you fill out a PLF form each? We're due to fly from Manchester to Thessaloniki in a couple of weeks. The Ryanair website says each passenger must fill it out, but the actual Greek site says one form per family. One form per family must be correct but there are reports of airlines misinterpreting the rules and denying passengers boarding if they don't have individual codes. Thanks xx
We are staying at hotel laios opposite the port and are only 1 of the 3 couples staying , we did fill in the PLF form under my partners name with me as travel companion , you recieve the qr code the night before travelling and manchester wont let you through unless you show it or an email to confirm you have filled it in, on arriving at thessaloniki they look at the code and check the travel companions before they let you tbrough and we assumed as the passenger in front got directed to be tested there is something on the qr code that they know means tested or not...to be honest i would fill in a PLF form for every traveller as is much easier than having to find everyone on the travel companion at the airport when asked.........the drive was beautiful and thassos still amazing ,dont worry too much our plans went perfect xx
Thanks Marie22. Reassuring as we are flying from Manchester. Fingers crossed we actually make it. We will be so disappointed if not as we had to cancel our June plans and have been so careful not socialising, working from home etc. Hope you have a fabulous time! Didn't really need to say that, because I know you will xx
Should have been out on your beautiful Island back in June, fingers crossed we'll be able to come next year. So miss our stay at the lovely Island View Villa where we meet with several other couples, English and German. Can't wait to be greeted by our lovely hosts Niki and Anna. Hope you have a wonderful summer Augie.
We are meant to be going to Florida in 6 weeks,it hasn't been cancelled yet,but we think it will. So my question is are we allowed to come to Thassos from the UK without self isolating also will there be enough restaurants etc for us for a 10 night stay, proberly staying in Thassos town. Also we would fly into Thessaloniki and drive to Thassos, many thanks in advance
If you stay in Limenas (Thassos Town) then you will have enough restaurants open to enjoy locally. Other beach resorts may not be open as much depending on when you come.
You won't be required to self-isolate unless you get randomly selected for testing upon your arrival at the airport in Thessaloniki. A very small percentage of travellers get a mandatory test upon their arrival. They are required to self-isolate for the first day pending the result. If you're selected and tested, you would continue your journey to Thassos but once you reach your accommodation you'd be requested to stay put for 24 hours. If your test returns positive, then the authorities will inform you and move you to a quarantine hotel, free of charge. If your test comes back negative, you won't hear back from them and you'll be able to move around as you please.
Lots of people made the trip (UK to Thassos via Thessaloniki) and I've only heard positive feedback so far!
Hi Augie, we are hoping to come around the 10th October, for 10 nights. It may be a last minute thing as we need virgin to cancel our Florida trip first.

It was a cruise ship called "World Explorer".
It's currently docked in Kavala's port, you can see its real-time location here: https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/shipid:5905776/zoom:14
