Hey Sandra, yes it's quite nipply today on Thassos so whoever goes for a stroll along the beach should wear plenty of layers!
I love visiting a taverna this time of year and sitting next to a cozy fireplace whilst enjoying my favorite winter drink called Rakomelo... a very warm (and strong!) alcoholic drink consisting of local tsipouro and local honey. It's perfect for soothing one's sore throat or cough, and it tastes delicious!
Yeah Sandra, it's really wonderful from up close... and kids are loving it. We haven't seen this much snow in ages!
The forests are getting plenty of water which means the mountain springs and waterfalls will be filled with water come Spring. May/June 2018 will be amazing for walkers, hikers, and bicyclers!
Unfortunately the snowy weather has caused a power outage in the area (since yesterday afternoon) and the camera has no power, which is why we can only see a black screen. The power company is working hard to get the power back up as soon as possible.
The Hotel Angelica webcam is off too, but the Limenas Port webcam is still working. Doesn't show the best of the snow the way Golden Beach does though! Hope the power comes back soon Augie ... stay warm!
Been watching the port one... I didn’t know about it until today ... I love it! ( not as much as golden beach obviously) Thanks for mentioning it ... 17weeks and counting!!!
Please be advised that the webcam will be unavailable temporarily. We needed to remove the webcam from the pole on which it was located because Villa Island View (the webcam's home) is undergoing an incredible outdoor renovation. It's going to look soooo amazing when complete! Guests are in for a real treat.
In the meantime, we're in the process of finding the next ideal spot for the webcam at Villa Island View. It's no easy feat because a lot of factors must be considered, such as the optical vantage point of the webcam's new position, security, privacy for guests, electricity and internet connections, engineering of a stable base that can survive the strongest of winds, among other things.
We promise to work as quickly as we can to bring you back your daily fix of Golden Beach, Thassos! Thank you for your understanding and especially for your support!
Good morning from an icy, snowy and very cold UK! Thanks for the update on the camera. Looking forward to our visit in August. Only wish we were retired and could visit more often in early season.
Thanks Augie for all you are doing to keep the camera going - it is very much appreciated - If you're around when we're out there it would be an honour to share an ouzo with you ( or whatever is your tipple )
Hi Augie, thanks for letting us all know what's been happening with the golden beach camera, but do know when you are hopping to have the camera working, as myself and my wife enjoy watching golden beach coming alive
We were hoping to have it working already but we've had delays on several fronts of the project. Please rest assured that the webcam will be up and running as soon as possible. We are just as anxious as you, if not a bit more.
Great news! The pole for the camera has been installed and the electrical/networking work has been completed.
Now we're waiting for an electrical part we discovered is needed. Once we receive the new part, it will simply be a matter of hours till you have Golden Beach on your screen again.

Progress came to a screeching halt over the Easter period but rest assured, we'll get there!
