Re: Ferry Schedule affected by the storm?
Good morning RaliK97,
As of yesterday the ferry routes are back to normal and running every half hour from Keramoti to Limenas, and 4 routes from Kavala to Skala Prinos. On Monday due to the bad weather there was only one ferry transporting people from Limenas to Keramoti and Keramoti to Limenas and none from Kavala to Skala Prinos nor from Skala Prinos to Kavala. I'm happy to say that all routes and ferry times are running back to normal again. Safe travels and have a great time on Thassos!

Fires Update
Hey everybody
Since there's a lot of interest in the fire situation, I wanted to share this with you:
The fires in Alexandroupoli were massive, fueled by 7 Beaufort winds, and burned about 40,000 hectares in just the first 3 days (that's the size of Thassos island!). Before hearing that news, I could already tell the blaze on the mainland was massive because I had never seen smoke and ash like that before, not even during the island's previous 2 fires in 2016 or 2022.
I took this picture outside of our office in Limenas on Tuesday, August 22:

I took this picture from the same location today, August 28:

The island is on alert and on the hotter and windier days, mountain roads are closed. It's inconvenient for me as a local who likes going for walks along mountain trails but I don't mind, I'm glad the authorities are doing what they can to help protect our precious forests when the weather conditions are conducive to fires.
Fingers crossed we'll get through this summer without any forest fires on Thassos. The locals as well as the authorities are doing everything they can to prevent them, calling for volunteers to stand guard 24/7. Many locals are heeding the call. The goal is to spot and respond to any fire within 30 minutes of it starting because if it can be reached quickly then the chances of preventing it from spreading are exponentially higher.
If you are on Thassos and you see any signs of smoke or a fire, please alert your host immediately so they can inform the local authorities. You can also call the emergency number 199 or the Thassos Fire Department at +30 25930 23199.
Thank you so much and enjoy your holidays on Thassos!

Re: Taxi prices
Hello PaulH
I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who is a taxi driver and he confirmed the prices did go up this year. The price in 2023 from Thassos Town to Limenaria is 50 Euros. He said he doesn't expect prices to go further up this year.

Re: Happy New Year
oh yeah, it's all going ahead. from June 12th the Island will be ours for two whole glorious weeks. found a great Deal with condor from Düsseldorf to kavala for just under 400 Euro for the two of us. accomodation as always with our friend Christos at loutrou bungalows in kinira and the car booked at potos cars so we can't wait for June to arrive, only 5 months to go.
Re: Potos Taxi from Thessaloniki to ferry
Dear Brenda,
thank you for your interest in our transfer services.
Kindly be informed that we offer two types of transfers from Thessaloniki Airport to Keramoti port/Thassos island. You can either book a private transfer, where you receive an instant confirmation and you need to pay a 20% deposit at the time of the booking or you can send us a request for our shared transfer services, and depending on the demand we can confirm 2 days before the arrival your transfer. Last but not least, if you find that no one of the above options is suitable for you you can think of renting a car from Thessaloniki Airport and driving on your own to Thassos or Keramoti. Again here, one-way rentals are subject to availability. For more information check our websites:

We remain at your disposal for any further information.
Kind regards,

Re: Live Webcam at Golden Beach, Thassos
I completely understand your concern.
The tragic situation on the mainland is improving.
On Tuesday, the smoke clouds from the fires in Alexandroupoli were blown over Thassos so we had smoke passing high above us which made the sky orange. Small flakes of ash also fell to the ground but that lasted only about 1 day.
The sky has cleared a lot since then and the air quality is much better. It's safe for children and people with lung problems, like my elderly father who has stage 2 COPD. He stayed indoors on Tuesday to be on the safe side. He's been going outside since Wednesday and hasn't had any problems.
