Hi,
Stupidly left it late to sort journey from airport to Thassos (30th July). Had hoped to save by not having car full time - first week we just tend to chill, before going exploring etc in second week. However, particularly during high season, Potos Car Hire not willing to do two hires, particularly if the first one is just for a couple of days, which I can understand. So looks like either have to hire car for the duration, which is obviously easier, but budget is tight, or is there a practical alternative for a family of 4 (all adults)? As I see it would need -
Bus airport to bus station in Thess -
Bus Thess to Kavala - if flight lands 11.10, would we make the 1pm bus/ must I prebook and pray no flight delays?
Walk to ferry - says 10 minutes, is this practical with cases (aiming to have smaller ones, but husband not very fit)?
Ferry to Skala Prinos
Skala Prinos to Potos bus or taxi - any idea of costs?
Grateful for any advice.

All good questions! Will try to help you out as much as possible so that you have peace-of-mind whilst travelling to Thassos.

Q: Bus Thess to Kavala - if flight lands 11.10, would we make the 1pm bus/ must I prebook and pray no flight delays?
A: Thessaloniki airport is quite efficient and it normally doesn't take more than 30 minutes to exit the airport from the time your plane lands, so if you have no delays, you should be outside by 11:45 or earlier.
Bus 78 goes from the airport to the central bus station and takes about 45-55 minutes (depending on traffic).

You should be able to make the 11:50 bus, which means you will arrive to the central bus station around 12:45. This will leave you with about 15 minutes to purchase your ticket and catch the 13:00 Express to Kavala.
Tickets for Kavala MUST be purchased at the ticket office inside the bus station or you could make a reservation in advance.

A quicker and more convenient (but more costly) alternative is to take a taxi from the airport to the central bus station. This will set you back between 25-30 EUR and should get you there in under 30 minutes.

Q: Walk to ferry - says 10 minutes, is this practical with cases (aiming to have smaller ones, but husband not very fit)?
A: Yes it's a practical walk, just be sure to carry some bottled water with you along the way! 10 minutes is the average amount of time it takes, it can take +-5 minutes, depending on your walking speed.

Q: Skala Prinos to Potos bus or taxi - any idea of costs?
A: A bus ride from Skala Prinos to Potos costs 3 EUR per person. You can find the time table and prices for all bus routes on the island by clicking the bus icon at the top-left corner of the page.
The buses are timed to be waiting for passengers that arrive with ferry, so you will see the buses waiting in front of the port the moment you arrive. There will be 2 buses, one going towards Limenas and one going towards Limenaria. You'll want the one for Limenaria, which continues onward to Potos. Just place your luggage into the undercarriage and purchase your ticket on the spot or inside the bus.
