Travelling to Thassos under Coronavirus

Unfortunately TUI confirmed cancellation today, expected, my wife still works in a school so holidays restricted, we had booked 3 holidays this year, Thassos, Kusadasi in July and Tenerife at xmas sadly cannot see us going on any of them, this virus isnt finished yet, feel for the people relying on tourism, hopefully make it next May, stay safe, havent looked forward to a new place for many years disappointed, take care Augie, hopefully see you in 2021. Tony.

Hi Tony :slightly_smiling_face:

Many thanks for sharing your news. It’s sad that your pre-existing plans were canceled but perhaps you won’t need to give up your holiday in Thassos this year, entirely.

Greece is working on a plan to ensure we can safely welcome Europeans from July and onwards. I would expect the UK will be included in this scheme even though it’s technically not a part of the EU.

Article: Greece Examining Idea of ā€˜Health Passport’ to Save Tourism Season from Covid-19

Yes read that in another article Augie. The trouble is the virus can take 4-14 days to come out. The problem is one can book a holiday and clearly there will be no holiday insurance willing to include the virus in their new policies. So as a couple you go for a check a week before and one of you proves positive. So holiday is cancelled and monies lost. Or even worse you both get the certificate as clear and you unknowingly pick it up two days before and get on the plane.
I just can’t see how this will work but will wait for the Governments solution

Hey Derek :slightly_smiling_face:

As you pointed out, many questions remain unanswered and I believe we’re banking on coronavirus tests becoming rapid and more accurate in the months to come.

Perhaps this idea could only be feasible with technology and facilities that are currently being developed and not yet available?

The whole world is devoting huge amounts of resources towards this problem and countries are racing to develop better tests, treatments, and vaccines. I believe the missing pieces of this puzzle are still under development.

Some good news about COVID-19 in Greece and Thassos.
Yesterday, after 42 days of continuous losing some people every day, was the first day with 0 deaths.
The new cases were only 7 all over Greece in the last 24 hours.
The Greek government has taken all measures to kill coronavirus.
The measures are stringent, and every time there is a new case, there is almost a military reaction to limit any spread.
The people are very careful, and for the first time they have obeyed the suggestions of the State.
There will be extra measures for the tourists that want to visit Greece. We are going to hear from them very soon. Tourism for Greece is very important and they are going to do everything possible to be in the best state when the summer comes.
For sure the heat is going to be on our side as the virus does not like it at all.
I am sure all visitors will have a great time here and they will remember Thassos at its best.

Well said Gregory. On the positive side, it is rumoured that the ferry boats will allow Non-Thassalians to travel to Thassos very soon. These may only be Greeks with a good reason to travel.

Hi Martyn :slightly_smiling_face:

Non-residents may be allowed to travel to the islands as early as May 18 if the coronavirus cases remain low and stable.

On 15 May, Greece’s top epidemiologist will assess the situation and announce the next steps. Fingers crossed!!

Thanks Augie. I too and lots of friends will keep our fingers crossed. I hope that everyone onboard must wear a mask and keep their distance.

so there is a glimmer of hope for our holiday end of august. i’m glad we didn’t cancel our flights as we got caught up on the condor Desaster and lost our money for the flights (we had booked before Thomas cook went bust), so had to book with eurowings to Thessaloniki. no Problem, we’ve done the drive a few Times. the Main thing is, that we can come and don’t have to wait another year, that would be unbearable.

Hi hobgoblin :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes, there is hope so let’s hang in there together!

Today, flights resumed between Germany and Greece (Frankfurt - Athens only, for now) because new cases in both countries have dropped significantly. If we continue to do well then your flight in August should be safe!

PS. In the last 24 hours, Greece only had 2 new confirmed cases in the entire country.

hi augie, that is impressive. we have still a way to go, but we are hopeful. so fingers crossed and hopefully until august, can’t wait. we had to cancel our ireland Trip from next week, so will be ready for a holiday.

Hi everybody :slightly_smiling_face:

Taking a covid-19 test will not be required to enter Greece
The Greek government and health ministry have made the decision that testing will not be a requirement for people who want to travel to Greece. Instead, everyone will be required to complete a covid-19 questionnaire before entering the country by air, land, or sea.

This week, we’re expecting official government announcements on border openings, timelines, rules, restrictions, etc. for Summer 2020. We are already working on a page where we will consolidate all of the important information for you to find in one place. I’ll let you know when it’s ready!

Hello, Augie))) there is no information yet about Ukraine? planned for you at the end of June.

Hi Evgeniu :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m so sorry, Ukraine is not on the list of 29 countries that can enter Greece starting June 15 without the mandatory quarantine measures.

However, the list will be updated in the next 2 weeks for tourism starting July 1 and Ukraine might be on that list! fingers crossed

If you have a reservation for the end of June, I highly recommend contacting your host and requesting a date change to July or later, a time that suits you best.

The situation is improving every day in almost every country, including Ukraine, so we remain hopeful and optimistic that you will be able to come soon!

Officially the borders are open from 15/6 onwards. That is for Romanians as well. The ferries are running as usual. You can always check the schedule on Go-Thassos site.

Hi Adela :slightly_smiling_face:

Gregory is right, you will be able to travel to Greece starting 15 June. If you try coming on the 14th I’m afraid you won’t be allowed in, so I suggest changing your arrival date to 15 June instead.

You can find the Thassos Ferry Schedules here: https://www.go-thassos.gr/thassos-ferry-schedules-prices

Buna ziua Adela,
Eu iti sugerez ca daca pleci din Romania in 14, fa o escala in Bulgaria la Happy Ring ( nu o sa-ti para rau, costa 20 euro/noapte) si a doua zi pleci pe la 9 si ajungi la feribot la pranz.

Thank you for you advice!

Hello, I have a question. My family and I are planning on going to Thassos on the 9th of July. Do you perhaps know if, due to the regulations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be any limitations or any kind of regulations regarding the free zones on the beaches?

Thanks a lot in advance!
