that’s great news about the wasps. I didnt want it to spoil our holiday. Yours is a beautiful island and we are so excited to be coming back. I understand the 15th august is Assumption Day on the Island. Do you have celebrations? Where is the best to go on that day? We hired a jeep from potos hire in Golden beach before. Are they still there? Should we hire before we come out in case its busy in August?

we were in 2008 at Limena Thassos at the end of Sept.until Oct.15…It was fantastic And had access to all the beaches, Even Makryamos, there are buses, Taxi, even rent a car…
Everybody is nice, polite, kind, with a smile they will love you… I was there also in 1977 and 1979… Sure a lot has change…(Not the kindness of people) but in more modern more facilities, more Hotels…We are going back this year 2009 in Sept. hi can anyone update us on the wasp situation, heading out on Sunday 2nd August 09, also how do the transfers work with thomson from kavala airport, as we wouldn’t want to lose out on 2 days of holiday transfering!

Niki Apartments are in Skala Panagia. They are fairly new, built in 2008, and they are nice quality accommodations just a 5 minute walk from Golden Beach.

We have been going to Skala Potamia since 2003(Gloria 1st time this May and is now a Potamia convert) and always stay at the Semeli Studios. We are returning on 12th Septemberand can’t wait. The Semeli is family owned and Eleni and family are extremely friendly and go out of their way to make guests very welcome - nothing is too much trouble.She can arrange transfers to and from the airport and can tell you anything you need to know. The rooms are spotlessly clean and tastefully furnished with well equipped kitchenette and extras like tv and hairdryer. It is perfectly situated with the sea right in the front and central for all the tavernas, restaurants and shops. We recommend the Korali restaurant next door owned by Sakis and Coasters bar for entertainment owned by Stelios and Sarah - don’t expect to leave early. Hei, ptr cei care v-ati intors de acolo(Thassos)cum mai sta treaba cu albinele si viespile? Noi am fost in 2006 la ioannis golden club si in mod cert erau ceva albine si viespi pe insula. Am fost intr-o zi la pescuit si dupa 30 min am renuntat ptr ca nu puteam sa scot bucatile de momeala din gura viespilor… pur si simplu se certau cu mine pe bucatelele de peste !!!
Si pentru ca cineva vorbea de salate…fratilor, in Grecia salatele sunt excelente…dar langa alte feluri de mancare. Mancati musaca( sau mousaka)in craticioara mica de lut, kleftico tot in lut, xiphia, mancati vitel, ca-n Romania nu va-ntalniti cu o carne atat de frageda, mancati patiserie, beti o bere indigena intr-o “glastra” din aia inghetata, bine’nteles mancati schrimp-si si octopus, beti “retsina” sau un vin al casei intr-o cana de arama, beti uzo cu gheata in el sau tsipuro si la sfarsit un metaxa(grecii nu prea beau dar va spun eu ca merge de milioane cu un trabuc la o terasa pe malul marii in Skala Potamia in compania potrivita)TRAIASCA TAVERNA , JOS ALL INCLUSIV-UL.
Nu ma intrebati, sunt indragostit de insula asta!
Si daca vreti sa mancati, mergeti in Limenas pe straduta aia mica si inghesuita cu felinare in forma de flori unde nu stii unde se termina o taverna si unde incepe alta(cea cu restaurantul TWINS).Am mancat excelent si la a doua sau a treia terasa (pe vremea aia)pe dreapta aleii care trece prin spatele plajei din SKALA POTAMIA, venind dinspre portul de pescari. A, si mergeti si sus in Panaghia… aaah, mai bine nu mergeti, ca daca va uitati in vitrinele rotiseriilor de acolo va paste infarctul !!! Dar si cu infarctul cred ca e bine, ca POATE RAIUL E IN THASSOS !!!

pt andrei: Sa stii ca e greu sa mai vorbim de thassos (skala potamia) pt noi astia care am fost…de ce? pt ca am revenit in tara, la munca si practic, am si uitat ca am fost in concediu…
Nu va faceti probleme de viespi si albine, anul asta nici nu se simt, n-o sa aveti probleme cu ele…mancarea insa, neschimbata, fffffff buna si se acorda si reduceri... Noi suntem clienti fideli tavernei Korali de 4 ani de zile si asa vitel cum se mananca acolo, n-am mancat in viata mea…la fel si despre miel si despre caracatita Thassos si calamari prajiti…bestiale…
Doamne, nu pot sa cred ca a trecut asa repede…va invidiez…
Oricum, nu va faceti griji, mancarea e super, apa e super, totul e super!!!

BIT WORRIED IF IT WILL BE CROWDED AS WAS STOUPA/NIDRI/KEFALONIA AT SAME TIME OF YEAR DUE TO GREEK HOLIDAYS,THIS DID NOT CAUSE A PROBLEM REALLY AS GREEK PEOPLE ARE USUALLY VERY NICE,THINKING OF STAYING AT ANASTASIA STUDIOS IS THIS OK? OR CAN YOU RECOMEND ANYTHING ELSE.

August 8 - 15 is absolutely the busiest time of the year no matter where you go in Greece. Expect a lot of traffic and crowded beaches because as you said all of the Greeks take their holidays all at the same time! Plus it’s a popular time for tourists from elsewhere since August is normally the hottest month of the year. I suggest coming just a bit earlier or a bit later for a quieter and more relaxed experience. The earlier or later, the better!!
Hi - we came to golden beach in 1993 on honeymoon - and now plan to come back in august 2010 with 10 and 13 year old boys - we know its quiet and laidback but are worried the boys wont have much to do - any ideas ?

Boy have things changed since 1993!
There is so much more now in the area than 17 years ago. Games, internet cafes, and water sports are just a few. There are also basketball courts in the area as well as beach volleyball nets on both ends of Golden Beach. The boys will have a great time.

We are planning to go to Skala Potamia for I think it’s the sixth time this year but I notice that Thomsons are only going to Susie’s appartments. There is nothing wrong with Susie we have been there three times but we would like to stay somewhere else. Are there any other tour operators that go to SP or will we have to consider going independently?
Independent is the way to go these days! You have so many choices this way and often you can find good deals and special offers depending on the time of year you holiday. Try it for a change, it’s easy and you can choose a place that suits you perfectly. Most of the hotels in Thassos and especially Skala Potamia are on the internet nowadays anyway!
