Transport form KAVALA and in the island
Hello
I am Beatriz, from Barcelona (Spain).
I will visit Kavala this August.
On August 27th, I have to go to THASSOS.
I have booked a room in LIMENAS.
I have read that there are 2 different harbours (KAVALA and Keramoti) for reaching Thassos.
What is the best option in your opinion?
As I will be located in Kavala, I would prefer to take a ferry in Kavala, but I have read that this ferry goes ONLY to Skala Prinos (not LIMENAS).
Do you have the schedule of the ferries for both options please? (KAVALA-THASSOS & Keramoti-Thassos)
I guess there are buses from Skala Prinos to Limenas that have a timetable “connected “ to the ferries’ arrivals?
Do you have the schedule of these buses please and for all buses in the island? (I will not have a car.)
Thanks a lot in advance for all the help)!
Regards.

You've understood correctly:
- From Kavala, the ferry goes to Skala Prinos on Thassos.
- From Keramoti, the ferry goes to Limenas (Thassos Town), where you have booked your room.
Given that your accommodation is in Limenas, the Keramoti-Limenas route is definitely the most convenient option for you, especially if your flight arrives at KVA airport. The airport is much closer to Keramoti, a 10-minute taxi ride, while Kavala is a 30 minute ride. The Keramoti-Limenas ferry is also much shorter (around 35-45 minutes) and more frequent, especially in August, making it a smoother transfer.
Here are the links to the schedules on Go-Thassos.gr, which we regularly update:

Yes, there are indeed buses on the island, and the main bus station in Limenas connects to all major villages and ports, including Skala Prinos. While buses from Skala Prinos to Limenas generally coordinate with ferry arrivals, it's always best to check the exact times.

Thanks a lot for your kind answer)!
I will not arrive to Kavala by plane. I will arrive by Bus.
I will stay few days in Kavala and then I will go to Thassos.
I am still hesitating as some persons told me that the bus from Kavala to Keramoti is not direct and not fast. Is this true?
Do you know how I can find the schedule of the Buses linking KAVALA to KERAMOTI please ?
THANKS ONCE MORE!
BEATRIZ
It's true. You'll need to take a bus from Kavala to Chryssoupoli and then change buses to go to Keramoti. I don't recommend this route if you are already in Kavala. My prior recommendation was under the assumption that you would arrive at KVA airport, which is closer to Keramoti than it is to Kavala.
Since you are arriving in Kavala by bus rather than the airport, then I would recommend taking the ferry from Kavala to Skala Prinos.
When the ferry arrives at Prinos, there will be 2 buses at the ferry port waiting for passengers to disembark. One bus goes to Limenas while the other goes to Limenaria (be sure to get on the correct one).
Here's the bus schedule from Kavala to Keramoti as you requested.

Your messages are really so helpful! ...precise, and with detailed information...You are really kind)! Thanks a lot!
I willl do as you say...
I have read there are nice sunsets in Thassos and specially from the village of Kazaviti. Do you agree?
Do you know which bus would take me there? I can't find the bus going from Limenas to Kazaviti..
Or to another place with a nice sunset...
The problem (I guess) will be for coming back to Limenas after the sunset...
Thanks once more!
regards
Beatriz
Thank you for your kind words!
Kazaviti is indeed a wonderful choice. It's one of my favorite mountain villages and definitely worth visiting, especially if you enjoy strolling through sleepy, traditional streets and having a lovely meal in a peaceful setting.
Regarding your question about the bus: You are correct, the public bus does not go all the way up to the village of Kazaviti. The bus route only goes along the coast, so the closest you could get by bus is to the village of Prinos. From there, you would need to take a taxi to get up to Kazaviti, which is a few kilometers inland.
Honestly, for a sunset trip, the best option is to rent a car or a scooter for the day. That way, you have the freedom to drive up to Kazaviti, enjoy the sunset, and then drive back to Limenas at your own pace without worrying about a taxi for the return journey.
You are right that the sunsets on the western side of Thassos are amazing. You don't have to go all the way to a mountain village to see a spectacular one. A great option closer to Limenas, and one you can easily get to and from, is Skala Rachoni. There are many beach bars and tavernas right on the water where you can sit and watch the sun go down. It's a beautiful and relaxing experience.
