Re: Is the Flying Dolphin service still operating between Limenas and Kavala
Unfortunately the Flying Dolphin is not operating currently and is not likely to operate at all in 2017. This may change of course, but for now I suggest you plan around other modes of transport and not the Flying Dolphin. Come back and ask this question again, a week or so before your trip, and we'll update you.
Have a good one!
Re: I need advice on Alexander studios in Skala Potamia
I have not stayed at Alexander Studios as a guest, but I have been there before and I also know the owners. Maybe I can help?
The location is great, right next to the sea and a short walk from 2 sandy beaches, Golden Beach (Skala Panagia) and Golden Coast Beach (Skala Potamia). The beach immediately in front of Alexander Studios is rocky but it becomes sandy further out.
The accommodation is self-catering and provides basic facilities for preparing food and drinks. The view from the front balconies facing the sea is spectacular.
The family is very nice and they know limited English but enough to get by. Some things may be getting lost in translation so try to keep questions short and simple to help them understand exactly what you want to know.
Hope this helps. I'll be happy to answer any more questions you have (if I can)!
Re: Last week of September in Thassos
The last week of September is usually very warm and pleasant although the evenings can get quite cool, so be sure to bring a sweater or light jacket for when you go out at night.
The weather is unpredictable but typically it is still a beautiful time for swimming and sight-seeing all the way through September and well into October.
You may find that there are less shops and tavernas open compared to July and August, but there still will be quite a few open at the end of September. Some of the shops tend to close at the end of September because there are far fewer tourists. For the lucky tourists who are here, that means they have more personalized service at the tavernas, less waiting times, and more space to themselves at the beaches!
There is a health center located in Prinos, about a 15-20 minute drive from Skala Maries. You can find the phone number of the health center as well as numerous doctors around the island if you click the telephone icon at the top-left corner of Go-Thassos.gr
In Skala Maries there is also a pharmacy.
We wish you a wonderful holiday on our beautiful island and please do come back if you have any more questions!

Re: Theatre Events
Actually there won't be any shows happening this summer at the ancient theatre due to a reconstruction project that is underway.
They are replacing the seating of the entire theatre with white thassian marble.
In the meantime, any performances/shows that would normally be held at the theatre will be taking place at different locations in Limenas, such as at the archaeological museum, the elementary school next to the Ancient Agora, etc.
The ancient theatre will be open again for cultural events in 2014.
What makes Thassos special for you?
Hi I'm new to the boards. We'll be holidaying on Thassos for 2 weeks at the beginning of August. I would love to hear everything about it that makes it special for you
Re: Wind Mobile Broadband
Unfortunately Wind doesn't have a store in Thassos nor does it offer 3G coverage on the island.
However, there are alternatives like Vodafone and Cosmote in Limenas. Both offer 3G broadband - be sure to ask them how good the coverage is in the area where you're staying. It varies around the island.
Photos of Thassos (no people)
Just photos of the island-- no humans in the frame or favourite tavernas/hotels/meals.
It could be focused on a theme or just your best shots. What do you think?
Here's one that I took some time ago!
Re: Desktop themes for Windows 7
We trust Ton_majstor but one could never be too careful these days... Just to be sure, we downloaded the files and scanned them with the latest version of Nortan AntiVirus. They're clean.
Thanks for sharing!
Re: waterfall in mountains
The shortest and most direct routes to Kastro are from the south.
You can start from Limenaria and drive to Kastro quite easily. Going this route, you will approach Kastro from the west. Then you'll have to take the dirt track on the east side of Kastro to get to the waterfall, which is a 3-4 kilometer journey.
It's also quite easy to get to Kastro from Theologos. The road between Potos to Theologos is all asphalt, and from Theologos the dirt track will require a 4x4 the whole way to Kastro. Going this route, you will pass the waterfall before you get to Kastro, since you will approach from the east.
You can get to Kastro from the north as well, but if it's your first time in the mountains of Thassos, we suggest the easier and more straight-forward routes from the south.
Not sure how many kilometers until the road becomes impractical for normal cars... but just to be on the safe side, we recommend taking a 4x4 the whole way. This way you can fully enjoy the drive, and not worry so much about the bumps, or your car.
