Great photographs of your holiday. It's really helped me plan where I'll go when I get to the island, thank you!

you're welcome Lorna, it was a special holiday for us and did not venture too far this time but just want to give an update on prices and changes from four years ago.

Well done with the 2019 Golden Beach Report, Delboy! It's extremely thorough, detailed, enlightening, and entertaining.

And a big THANK YOU for the personal risks and sacrifices you made for the sake of better informing your audience... for example, eating fried foods that may not be the healthiest for you... and living to tell the tale! Was Mrs. Db supportive or did she give you a hard time for that?? ;)

    Hi Augie,

I always like that element of danger in my holiday. As I did not attempt the Ipsarion again this year, the bacon and cheese pies must have put me right up on the things not to eat list lol

Ooo I shall give this a good read with a coffee later....

My trip report for Zante is not as extensive and informative. It goes like this.

It's not Thassos, we didn't like it and we won't be returning.

LOL @ Leane's trip report

lol so I take it you were not keen then Leane

I felt the same way about Mykonos passing through it and the best part was the runway going home. Where the steward on the plane said our coffee is going to sound cheap after your stay

Nope not keen at all! We paid for a five star hotel (our 20yr anniversary) and the food was awful. It cost us £30 for a bottle of wine!! Its rare we book more than B&B but these only did half board. We started eating out after a few days. The Germans there weren't very friendly and we ended up speaking to no one for a week.

We hired a car but couldn't really find anything much to see, one place laganas was like Blackpool on Steroids!! the coast line is beautiful but we were mindful that a lot of the boat companies don't adhere to the rules around the turtles so didn't want to risk going out. One boat trip we saw had music playing so loudly as it passed we felt we were on board!!

There's a whole other stuff I could complain about, but I won't bother. The pool was nice LOL

Just up to Day seven (at work at the phone keeps interrupting my reading)
Del will you be going back? If so can I recommend visiting Kastro if you haven't already! You would love the views and some of the run down buildings would be interesting to photograph. Not to mention the house of bones!!

    Hi Leane,

Yes went to Kastro in the first trip report which is in the tourist reviews section on here.
The whole 4 x 4 trip is there but you need to click into the link on about day 12 (from memory). At that time I tried to create the review as a whole one which got too big so had to add stuff in links on there. These days I just split it into two parts.
I have read Laganas is a horrid place with alcohol being mixed with cheap fluids and 18/ 30 youngsters being made ill. A youngster recently aged 19 crashed a quad and was beaten up by the owner's bullies. Then then escorted him to the shop and threatened if he did not pay them 5000 euros they would break his legs with an iron bar and throw him in the sea. His mother was in despair trying to get him home. He lost all his money that he was saving up doing an apprenticeship. The insurance sold was worthless and as I understand it Greek law forbids any hire under the age of 23.
The British consulate was informed as he had gone missing and police just stood outside the shop and did nothing knowing he was in there.
The story was told by his mother on Tripadvisor forum

Hi Delboy - love the photos - what a great way to show us Thássos. I will definitely be going to some of the places you show. I have booked the Alexandra golden beach for September and am just wondering what the weather will be like. I see you went in July? And it looked lovely.

    Hi Sue,

I have not been in September but the weather usually holds until 1st October but would not risk it into October. This last year we went in June but other years into July. The Boutique hotel if that is where you are staying is very nice in Golden Beach. There is another hotel of a similar name in Potos.
For us the hotel was a lovely bubble with it's own sunbeds on a quiet part of the beach. I try not to repeat things in the reports and you will find some different walks and trips on the other three trip reports which might give you more ideas. eg the 2015 one we went into Thassos Town for the day and the 2013 one I went into the mountain trip ride.
Hope it helps you get around and enjoy Thassos as we do

    Hi Sue :)

September is generally hot and sunny, and the sea is at its warmest temperature (because it had all summer to warm up).

If you want to experience Thassos when the island is still lively, I suggest coming in the first 10 days of September. If you want less people and more quiet, then the second half of September is probably your best time to visit.

When ever you do decide to come, I wish you a wonderful time on our beautiful little paradise!

Thank you both so much - this is such a helpful site- I’ve booked the Alexandra golden beach from 6 Sept. Very much looking forward to our holiday in Thassos.

you are so welcome Sue, you will love the hotel and my wife and I keep returning to Thassos having travelled all around Greece. Let us know if you need any advice.

    Hello Delboy,

Just really enjoyed looking through first eight days of your report from last year.

We were there last week in June and first week in July just after you and it was very busy. We stayed at Stefanus next to Finekas and had great time.

Ferry was on Sunday and packed coming and going.

We decided to book early June this year to be more quieter but looks like we will need to postpone.

Your photo report is great. You must have good camera, I love the high shots looking down to the bay and above Panagia and the close up of the boat trip. Here is snap I took of the boat showing how crowded.

I'll be reading through your other reports later. Far better than watching the news and tipping point and I've had enough of gardening.
    Best regards Steve

Just to add reference reports on Zante we visited in 2002 and vowed never to return.

My wife was confined to room for half our stay due to sickness as were others in the hotel. We were in Tsivoli next to a motor cycle rental and all we seemed to hear for 12 hours a day whist in room were bikes being revved up.

We also went to Laganas for evening trip and back then it was rammed with youngsters getting plastered. It must be 100 times worse now. Steve

Hi Steve, we also were looking forward to mid June but it is unlikely to happen. We have already written it off several weeks ago.

I have two camera's, a small one I always walk about with Pan TZ90. Most of the pics get taken with it.

I also use a Nikon D7200 when after a special picture. Although the small camera can take pretty good photos. Unfortunately I can only show a low quality image over the internet due to the space limits. The images that start with a 'p' in the bottom corner of the photo are from the small camera.
